Choose the destination before the ticket
Road Town and West End are different Tortola arrivals. Spanish Town serves Virgin Gorda; Great Harbour is a Jost Van Dyke entry point. Your villa, marina or excursion meeting point determines which connection is useful. Ask your host for the arrival port they recommend and the ground transfer required.
For an airport connection, work backward from the operator’s check-in deadline. Include baggage collection, the road transfer and any delay allowance you need. A short distance on the map is not a guaranteed connection.
Make a complete crossing plan
Record the operator, departure terminal, arrival terminal, check-in deadline, baggage allowance and cancellation terms for each direction. Check whether a quoted price includes taxes and port charges; do not assume a return ticket includes every charge.
Confirm the documents and entry permissions for every nationality in your group. A ferry ticket is not permission to enter either territory. Use the focused guides below to prepare, then check the linked government and operator sources before paying.
- Outbound sailing and return sailing confirmed for the same travel date.
- Arrival documents and any required visas checked for each traveler.
- Ground transport arranged on both islands.
- A fallback plan if weather or a missed connection changes the day.
Use your island time well
For a day trip, choose one main experience near your arrival point and agree the return journey before leaving the dock. For a villa or yacht check-in, share the ferry details with your host so pickup instructions match the terminal.
Explore the island landing pages for places to stay, restaurants and local operators. Confirm availability directly with the business; discovery on WelcomeToVI does not itself reserve a seat, transfer or excursion.
