A direct route needs a date check
A route appearing on an operator’s website does not mean it sails every day. Inter Island Boat Services advertises a Virgin Gorda route from Red Hook via Cruz Bay, while BVI Tourism also lists Virgin Gorda connections. Check the actual calendar, stops and return trip before buying.
Ask which Virgin Gorda dock is used and arrange onward transport from that point. A ferry arrival is not automatically a transfer to The Baths, a North Sound resort or your accommodation.
Compare a Tortola connection carefully
If connecting through Tortola, establish where the first boat arrives and where the next boat departs. Add any road transfer, baggage handling and border processing before deciding whether the connection works.
Ask both operators about check-in deadlines and missed-connection policies. Do not assume separate tickets protect each other or that someone will hold the second boat. An overnight stop can be a more practical choice when the timetable leaves little room.
If The Baths is your main reason to go
Choose transport only after checking that the arrival, ground transfer, park visit and return fit your group’s pace. Ask the local operator about current access and sea conditions, and leave lunch or extra stops flexible.
Book a package only after checking what it includes: ferry, ground transfer, park admission, guide, food and return arrangements can be separate. Keep the written inclusions with your confirmation.
Before you commit
Compare total journey time and the complete quote rather than the cheapest single ticket. Confirm documents for the international crossing and ask your accommodation for practical arrival advice if staying overnight.
- Check both directions on your actual date.
- Name each dock and every ground transfer.
- Keep separate operator contacts and booking references.
- Arrange a fallback if a connection is canceled.
