What you need to know
The Virgin Islands Energy Office has opened its VIRG 2.0 rebate for portable battery power stations purchased on or after November 2. Eligible units must store between 1 and 6 kilowatt-hours, and the rebate is calculated at $250 per kilowatt-hour, capped at $1,500 per household.
Applicants must buy from a VIEO-approved vendor, possess the unit before applying and submit a completed application, W-9, USVI government-issued identification, paid itemized receipt and clear photo of the battery serial number. The current vendor list includes options serving the St. Thomas–St. John district and St. Croix.
The portable systems are intended to support essential household loads such as phones, lights, Wi-Fi equipment, certain medical devices and refrigerators, depending on the unit and connected demand. They are not whole-home systems, and a submitted application does not guarantee approval or payment because awards depend on eligibility, verification and available funding.
Government House says VIEO stopped accepting new applications for its Electric Mobility and VIBES installed-battery programs when VIRG 2.0 launched. The announcement does not say that previously approved rebates were cancelled or explain the status of complete applications already under review, so existing applicants should seek a case-specific update from VIEO.
VIEO should publish the total VIRG 2.0 funding pool, expected processing time, approved product list, remaining-funds tracker and written disposition of every pending EM and VIBES application.
