BVI records 1.07 million visitor arrivals through September

The January–September total combines cruise passengers, overnight visitors and day trippers; officials did not publish a category-by-category breakdown with the announcement.

The British Virgin Islands recorded 1,071,716 visitor arrivals from January through September 2026, Junior Minister for Tourism Luce Hodge-Smith said during the government's Virgin Islands Voice programme.

The total combines cruise passengers, overnight visitors and day trippers; it does not represent one million unique people or one million hotel stays. Officials did not provide the category totals during the broadcast, although cruise passengers were described as the largest share.

Third-quarter arrivals totaled 205,149. The junior minister said overnight visitation increased while day-tripper traffic declined slightly, but the announcement did not give exact category figures for those changes.

This is the third consecutive year in which BVI arrivals have crossed one million. The figure covers only the first nine months of 2026 and should not be compared with a full-year total without accounting for October through December.

SUGGESTED IMPROVEMENT

The BVI Tourist Board and Central Statistics Office should publish monthly cruise, overnight and day-trip arrivals with average stay, occupancy and visitor-spending measures in a downloadable series.
