The BVI government says electricity-cost subsidies will continue through December 31, supported by an additional $2.5 million intended to reduce the fuel surcharge paid by customers.
Officials said Cabinet approved the funding through a supplementary appropriation that is expected to go before the House of Assembly. The new allocation follows a three-month emergency subsidy earlier in the year and brings the government's announced intervention to $5.5 million, separate from costs absorbed by the BVI Electricity Corporation.
The release does not provide a household-by-household discount or guarantee the same savings on every bill. Customers should use BVIEC statements and their own bills to confirm the applied credit or fuel-surcharge reduction.
The subsidy is scheduled to end December 31 unless the government announces another extension or a different rate arrangement.
BVIEC should show the subsidy as a separate line on each bill and publish the monthly fuel-surcharge rate, government contribution and remaining program balance.
