Confirm your Road Town or West End departure terminal for November 1–5
BVI Ports Authority notices agree that Road Town Jetty building work affects November 1–5 and that international arrivals will clear at West End. Published departure guidance conflicts: the October 28 government release directs Road Town departures to West End, while a later BVI Ports Authority release reported on October 29 says departures continue from Road Town. Do not rely on either terminal without confirmation. Check the current BVI Tourism route-change notice and your ferry operator on the day of travel, allow extra time, and treat the expected November 6 reopening as conditional on completion and safety clearance.
The BVI Government says one-way traffic is in effect on Great Harbour Road from the vicinity of Rudy’s Marketplace eastward toward Foxy’s Tamarind Bar. Directional signs are installed. Drivers and taxi passengers should follow the posted direction and allow for local access changes; confirm any later roadworks or diversions before travel.
A September 4 government announcement says sidewalk reconstruction on DeCastro Street in Road Town is planned to start in September 2026. It identifies uneven pavement but does not give confirmed work dates or diversions. Check current local access before visiting, particularly if you need a step-free route; do not assume works have started or finished.
Speedy’s page shows conflicting St. Thomas–Virgin Gorda guidance
Speedy’s official page currently displays both a notice saying its St. Thomas–Virgin Gorda service is suspended through October 31, 2026, with resumption scheduled for November 7, and a Saturday schedule showing 8:30 AM from Virgin Gorda and 4:00 PM from Charlotte Amalie. BVI Tourism also displays the Saturday times while warning that schedules can change. Because the published guidance conflicts, do not rely on the displayed times alone. Confirm whether your exact sailing is operating directly with Speedy’s before paying, traveling to the terminal, or arranging a same-day connection. Speedy’s says local Tortola–Virgin Gorda routes are not affected by the international-service pause.
BVI Ports Authority currently lists Aquatic Rentals, Speedy’s, Native Son, Road Town Fast Ferry, Smith’s Ferry, and New Horizon Ferry. The directory identifies operators but does not provide a reliable BVI-wide timetable. Schedules are operator-managed, so confirm the sailing directly before travel.
Smith’s Ferry describes its own St. Thomas–Tortola service as operating four to five days per week. This is not a timetable for all operators on the route. Confirm your exact date, departure port, and return sailing directly with your chosen operator.
Smith’s Ferry describes its own Tortola–Anegada connection as twice weekly. This does not describe every operator’s service. Verify operating days, departure point, return options, and baggage rules directly before booking.
Official BVI guidance requires travelers to present a passport when entering and departing. Some nationalities also need a visa, so verify the current rule with BVI Immigration or the official entry page before travel.
Declare agricultural products; do not carry fresh produce from St. Croix
The BVI Department of Agriculture and Fisheries asks every arriving traveler to declare fruits, vegetables, plants, planting material, and other agricultural products, including items in luggage, private vessels, parcels, or gifts. Because St. Croix is under a Mediterranean fruit-fly quarantine, travelers should not bring fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, or host plants from St. Croix into the BVI. Anyone buying or shipping agricultural products from St. Croix or Puerto Rico should confirm the product’s origin, restrictions, and entry requirements with the department before travel or shipment.
Complete the BVI electronic entry and departure card
The BVI Government says every traveler entering or leaving by air or sea—including visitors, residents, students, work-permit holders, and belongers—must complete the free digital ED Card within 72 hours before travel. Use only the government-authorized portal linked from the official service page, keep the confirmation ready for inspection, and recheck the instructions before departure because border procedures can change.
Travel between the U.S. and British Virgin Islands is an international border crossing. Ferry times, operators, port hours, entry rules, and required documents can change. WelcomeToVI points travelers to official current sources before they move.
