VIPD offices move to GERS Building with new public hours

The St. Thomas records, fingerprint and firearms offices were expected to reopen Wednesday after Tuesday's move from the Criminal Justice Complex.

UPDATEUpdated Sept. 9: The announced one-day closure has expired. VIPD expected the relocated offices to resume service Wednesday, but residents should verify access before making a time-sensitive trip.

The Virgin Islands Police Department's Records, Fingerprints and Firearms bureaus closed to the public Tuesday while staff completed a move from the Criminal Justice Complex to the Government Employees' Retirement System Building on St. Thomas.

VIPD expects normal operations to resume Wednesday, September 9. At the new location, Records is scheduled to serve the public Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., while Fingerprints will operate weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Firearms Bureau's announced hours are Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to noon, with the office closed to the public Fridays. VIPD said it will provide more information if the location within the GERS Building or available services change.

Anyone who needs a time-sensitive record, fingerprint or firearms service should wait for the announced reopening and verify the destination before traveling. Emergency police service is not described as part of this administrative-office closure.

SUGGESTED IMPROVEMENT

VIPD should publish a map, entrance and parking instructions, accessibility information and a direct service-status number before Wednesday's expected reopening.
