Vester Gade closes for paving September 14–16

Road work beside Jane E. Tuitt Elementary School is scheduled daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; drivers should remove parked vehicles and use alternate routes.

The V.I. Department of Public Works plans to close Vester Gade beside Jane E. Tuitt Elementary School on St. Thomas for milling and related road repairs beginning Monday, September 14.

Contractor Grace Civil, LLC is scheduled to work from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Public Works expects the project to be completed Wednesday, September 16, although construction schedules can change because of weather or field conditions.

Vehicles should be removed from the surrounding work area before repairs begin. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes, allow additional travel time and follow traffic-control directions near the school and work zone.

The agency's notice does not identify a formal detour or say whether the road will reopen outside daily work hours. Drivers should check Public Works' official channels for any schedule change before traveling through the area.

SUGGESTED IMPROVEMENT

Public Works should publish a simple detour map, clarify whether Vester Gade will reopen after 5 p.m. each day and issue a dated completion notice when normal traffic resumes.
