The V.I. Office of Veterans Affairs has introduced a license plate recognizing women who served in the U.S. armed forces, with plates available through its St. Croix and St. Thomas–St. John district offices.
Applicants must have a DD Form 214 or NGB Form 22 on file with Veterans Affairs, or bring the document when applying, and must present the registration for the vehicle that will display the plate.
Veterans Affairs says the plate itself is issued at no charge after eligibility is verified. Normal vehicle-registration costs may still apply through the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
Commander Hillis Benjamin and retired Brigadier General Deborah Howell received the first plates in the St. Thomas–St. John and St. Croix districts, respectively.
