Owners have 72 hours from the date a notice is placed on the vehicle to correct the problem. If they do not act, the government says they may face fines and additional fees, and the Bureau of Motor Vehicles may place a lien against the last recorded owner.
Residents whose names appear on the current list are asked to contact the Office of the Administrator at 340-693-4316 or 340-774-0001. Because the deadline runs from each vehicle's tagging date, affected owners should confirm their specific deadline directly rather than calculate it from the article's publication date.
Government House also retracted a gray Toyota Corolla with plate H 528 that had been listed after already satisfying the program's requirements. The correction underscores the importance of checking the current official record before taking action or repeating an owner's name.
The Office of the Administrator should publish a searchable, date-stamped list showing each vehicle's tagging date, response deadline, island, cleared status and correction history, while minimizing unnecessary exposure of personal information.
