Eleven micro-cultivation applications have moved into compliance review under the U.S. Virgin Islands adult-use cannabis program. The group includes three applicants from St. John, four from St. Thomas, three from St. Croix and the first application filed from Water Island.
Compliance review is one step in the licensing process. The applications still require evaluation and scoring, and the Cannabis Advisory Board has not announced final licenses for this group.
Program officials also said a second commercial cultivator on St. Croix was expected to begin operating by the end of the week and a third could follow. Those projected openings are not being treated as confirmed until the operators or regulators announce that production has begun.
The board lacked a quorum at its latest meeting, so it took no formal action on a separate question involving cannabis-business ownership by elected officials and other license holders.
The Cannabis Advisory Board should publish a dated application tracker by island showing compliance, scoring, licensing and opening milestones without disclosing protected applicant information.
