St. Thomas steps onto the world sailing stage

St. Thomas will welcome the global Clipper Race fleet during the 2027–28 edition of the round-the-world sailing competition, marking the first time the U.S. Virgin Islands will participate as both a host port and team partner.

A host-port stop can bring crews, supporters and international attention ashore at the same time. For the territory, the value extends beyond the waterfront: restaurants, taxis, shops, hotels and experience providers may all share in the visitor activity surrounding the arrival.

The announcement gives tourism planners and local businesses a long runway to prepare offers, events and island storytelling that can turn a major sailing moment into broader economic visibility. Additional operational details are expected as the race calendar develops.
