The Government House Joint Information Center says St. Croix's islandwide water inventory increased from approximately 31 percent to 38 percent over the weekend as WAPA increased potable-water production. The improvement does not amount to a full system all-clear.
Pressure is improving across the West End, but some customers may still experience low pressure or intermittent service, especially in higher-elevation areas including North Carlton Road, Estate Two Williams, Mars Hill and parts of La Grange.
The boil-water advisory remains in effect. Water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth and other household consumption should be boiled for one minute and allowed to cool, or replaced with bottled water, until WAPA issues an official all-clear.
The public potable-water standpipe remains scheduled Monday through Friday from noon to 4 p.m. It is closed on weekends so WAPA has additional time to replenish system inventory. The three temporary Frederiksted non-potable distribution sites ended operations after September 7 and are separate from this weekday standpipe.
WAPA continues to ask customers to conserve water. Service issues may be reported at 340-773-2250, extension 3065, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Governor Albert Bryan Jr.'s August 30 emergency order provided the framework for the wider response. WAPA's latest update describes progress but does not say that the territory has rescinded the order or ended all recovery measures.
WAPA should publish a timestamped neighborhood pressure map, current standpipe schedule, tank-level trend and the specific testing criteria required to lift the boil-water advisory.
