The first day of classes at the Frederiksted and Kingshill Head Start campuses was postponed Tuesday because neither St. Croix facility had reliable running water. The V.I. Department of Human Services and Office of Head Start said nearby water-system repairs left the campuses unable to open safely.
Officials have not announced a new start date. They said they are monitoring restoration work with the utility and will notify parents and guardians when the campuses can operate safely.
The notice applies specifically to the Frederiksted and Kingshill Head Start locations. Families should use an official Human Services or Head Start update for the reopening date rather than assume the campuses will automatically open Wednesday.
St. Croix's wider water system has been recovering after a wastewater overflow interrupted production in late August. Emergency non-potable distribution ended after September 7, but WAPA has not issued an all-clear lifting the boil-water advisory.
Human Services should publish one dated reopening notice with the next decision time, family contact numbers and any meal, transportation or learning support available while the two campuses remain closed.
