Raphune Hill night-work window ends; completion remains unconfirmed

Public Works' October 19–25 schedule has passed, so the detour alert is retired without assuming paving and guardrail work finished or normal traffic fully resumed.

UPDATEUpdated October 26: the October 19–25 detour alert was retired after the scheduled window passed. Project completion and unrestricted traffic remain unconfirmed.

Public Works scheduled nighttime construction on Dorothy 'Dotsy' Lockhart Elskoe Drive, commonly called Raphune Hill, from October 19 through October 25. Contractor Island Roads Corp. planned milling, paving and guardrail installation between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Eastbound drivers from Alton Adams Sr. Drive and Georgia Francis Drive will be directed to turn around near Tortola Hill Road. DPW's alternate route runs south through Rumer Drive and Mandela Circle to Elmo D. Roebuck Sr. Drive before continuing east.

Westbound drivers approaching from Weymouth Rhymer Highway will be directed north onto Donoe Bypass, then west along Skyline Drive and Maude Proudfoot Drive. Drivers traveling south on Donoe Bypass will be limited to an eastbound turn onto Weymouth Rhymer Highway.

DPW anticipated completing the work Sunday, October 25, weather and site conditions permitting. No official completion notice was found Monday morning, so the expired detour alert is removed without asserting that every lane or work area has returned to normal; motorists should follow current signs and flaggers.
