Four generators arrive to strengthen St. John backup power

The equipment can produce a combined 10 megawatts, moving WAPA closer to dedicated backup generation for the island.

Four generators with a combined capacity of 10 megawatts have arrived in the territory as part of the effort to provide St. John with dedicated backup electricity generation.

The equipment represents a significant infrastructure step, but arrival is not the same as activation. Installation, connection, testing and commissioning work must still be completed before residents see the full reliability benefit.

Dedicated backup capacity could reduce the island’s vulnerability when its primary supply is interrupted, especially during severe weather or wider grid disruptions.
