A 45-year-old St. Croix man has been arrested after his brother died from stab wounds suffered Monday afternoon at an Estate Glynn residence, according to police information and public court records reported by local news outlets.
Police identified the victim as Jose Antonio Cotto and the accused as Miguel A. Cotto. Officers responding to a 911 call found Jose wounded outside the home; he was transported to Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Miguel Cotto was detained at the scene and later charged with first-degree murder, first-degree assault, third-degree assault and possession of a dangerous weapon during a crime of violence. Bail was set at $1 million, and he was remanded pending court proceedings.
The case is at the accusation stage. Charging documents and statements attributed to witnesses describe the prosecution's allegations, and Cotto is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
