The V.I. Department of Public Works and VITEMA's two-day sandbag distribution ended at 3 p.m. Friday, September 4. The agencies had offered up to six bags per household at designated locations on St. Croix, St. Thomas and St. John.
The former pickup sites were the Public Works location in Estate Anna's Hope on St. Croix, the DPW Subbase Operations Yard on St. Thomas and the Susannaberg facility on St. John. Residents should not travel to those sites based on the expired notice.
The distribution was part of Operation Blue Skies, the territory's seasonal preparedness program. DPW has not posted a replacement window, so any future pickup should be confirmed through DPW or VITEMA before travel.
Households can continue other preparedness work now: clear safe drainage routes, protect important records, review shelter plans and maintain water, food, medication and other essential supplies.
