Divi resort remains closed after generator fire; casino is open

The St. Croix hotel has no electricity and relocated 51 guests, while inspections continue and no reopening date has been announced.

Divi Carina Bay Resort remains closed and without electricity following a September 30 fire in the property's power plant, according to an October 6 update from the V.I. Casino Control Commission reported by the Virgin Islands Consortium.

The resort relocated 51 hotel guests to other properties. One of three generators was lost in the fire, and the remaining generators and the structure housing them require inspection for heat damage. No injuries were reported.

The casino is operating separately. It resumed later on September 30 after DPNR approved a pending backup-generator application. Resort employees continue to be paid during the closure, according to the commission.

Management has developed reopening plans, but no reopening date has been announced. Travelers should confirm hotel status directly before arriving and should not assume the operating casino means the resort has reopened.
