Frederiksted road project adds drainage and sidewalk work

King, Queen and Fisher streets are paved, while Strand Street trench drains, sidewalk repairs and flood work continue toward a December substantial-completion target.

Public Works says contractor Marco St. Croix Inc. has completed paving on King, Queen and Fisher streets in downtown Frederiksted. Paving on Strand Street remains pending.

Current Strand Street work includes trench-drain installation and sidewalk repairs that were added beyond the original project scope. The contractor is also addressing flooding south of the Strand Street and Hill Street intersection.

DPW is targeting substantial completion in December, subject to unforeseen complications or additional issues found during construction. Substantial completion is a project milestone, not necessarily a final all-clear for every lane, sidewalk or drainage item.

Drivers should expect temporary lane restrictions, intermittent closures and delays while work continues. DPW recommends alternate routes when practical and extra care around active crews and traffic controls.

SUGGESTED IMPROVEMENT

DPW should publish a block-by-block work map, weekly lane schedule, accessible pedestrian routes and a dated completion notice when each downtown segment returns to normal use.
